Nyumbani is a recognized world leader in providing HIV services to children and affected families in Kenya.

Nyumbani delivers comprehensive medical and home-based HIV services in crucial areas of need: diagnostic services and critical medical care, holistic family and community building, education and preventive care, environmental sustainability, and self-reliance.

Why is Nyumbani needed?

Nyumbani was founded in 1992 by the late Father Angelo D’Agostino. The need for Nyumbani couldn’t be more pressing: Over 120,000 Kenyan children under the age of 14 are infected with HIV and an estimated 850,000 Kenyan children are orphaned due to HIV. The disease has washed through Kenya’s communities like a tsunami, taking the strongest adults and leaving over a million children orphaned and older adults unable to support themselves in an unforgiving landscape of disease and poverty.

In addition to the Nyumbani programs in Kenya, it has fundraising boards in the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and Ireland. Nyumbani is supported by government grants, donors, and corporate sponsorships.

Our whole-child model works

Nyumbani’s caring, intensive, whole-child model works. It is a community-based method that is powerful and replicable. Because of the sheer numbers of new HIV cases, Nyumbani is growing. Our goals are sweeping – to reduce HIV transmission rates and improve quality of life for thousands of affected children and communities.

We encourage visitors and volunteers. Our expert staff depends on hundreds of individual volunteers, academic fellows and graduate students, and service groups to provide continuous care and to expand our service delivery.
